Police have released CCTV images in an appeal for public assistance to identify a man following two robberies involving a stun gun device in Sydney’s south west in recent weeks.
A 75-year-old club employee and 20-year-old Australia Post worker both suffered an electric shock when they were assaulted with the device during two separate incidents.
Bankstown detectives today released CCTV video and still images of a man they wish to interview in relation to the matters.
The first incident occurred just after 4pm on Thursday 20 May when a man entered a registered club, located at Meredith Street, Bankstown.
The man spent an hour playing poker machines before approaching the bar to collect his winnings.
When the 75-year-old club employee opened a cash register, the man jumped the counter and allegedly assaulted him with a stun gun device before raiding the cash register and fleeing with a sum of money.
The victim did not suffer serious physical injury as result of the attack.
The second incident occurred just after 4.30pm last Tuesday week (June 1) when a man entered an Australia Post office on the Hume Highway at Yagoona.
Requesting a passport photograph, the man was allowed entry into an office area when he allegedly grabbed a female worker, placed her in a headlock and used a stun gun device on her hand.
Taking cash from a register the man was seen running from the store and getting into a silver 3-door Toyota RAV 4 with black and yellow number plates and a silver nudge bar at the front.
Bankstown Local Area Commander A/Superintendent Dave Small said police believe the man depicted in the CCTV images in both incidents is the same person.
“We are seeking public assistance to identify this person and appeal to anyone with any information to come forward,” he said.
“In both incidents, the victims suffered an electric shock and while the use of stun guns in offences is not a common occurrence we are greatly concerned about the use of this prohibited weapon.”
The person of interest who police wish to interview is described as being aged in his late 20s, of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance with long black hair, tied and plaited in a ponytail with a distinctive “shaped” beard.
During the alleged club robbery he was seen wearing a blue hooded jumper, light coloured jeans, running shoes and sunglasses on his head and carrying a multi-coloured plastic bag.
In the second incident he was wearing a white collared shirt, black jeans and white shoes with sunglasses on his head.
The car he was seen leaving in following the Yagoona incident is described as a silver three door Toyota RAV 4 cruiser with yellow and black plates and a silver nudge bar at the front.
The stun gun is described as a small black-coloured hand-held device, its size similar to an electric razor.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that might assist investigating officers is urged to contact Bankstown Police Station via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
